There are three types of bed bugs. The Common or Household bed bug, the Bat bug, and the Tropical bed bug. Region(s) Affected: Worldwide, they were mainly found in developing countries. But with International travel have spread into developed countries.
Habitat: Bed bugs are attracted to their hosts by carbon dioxide and warmth. Bed bugs are elusive and commonly nocturnal. They live comfortably in dark crevices. The eggs can be nestled in fabric seams or hidden in cracks and holes in the wood frame of a mattress.

Signs of a Bedbug infestation
  • You may notice a foul smell.
  • Fecal spots on mattresses or sheets.
  • Small bite marks on your skin in little rows or clusters.
  • You may find dead bugs, or their skin in places they like to hide.
  • Spots of your own blood on bedding.

How to treat indoor infestation and prevent return infestation:
  • Keep clothing and luggage off floors
  • Don't put luggage on furniture, you may have brought some in from outdoors.
  • Wash all clothing, even unworn, from trips- in hot water.
  • Wash bedding at least once a week in hot water.
  • Vacuum beds and furniture.
  • Steam clean mattresses and furniture that are infested, if possible.
  • Use a plastic mattress encasement designed for bug control. Once they are encased, they will not be able to escape and will eventually die.
  • Use a crevice tool to vacuum crack and crevices for any hiding bed bugs. This should also be used on baseboards, nightstands, lights, pictures, alarm clocks, etc.
  • Pull bed from wall about 6 inches, and wrap sticky tape, sticky side out, to trap any climbing bugs.
  • If using insecticides, never put it where it will come in contact with your skin. This could be hazardous to your health.
  • Setting off a bug bomb could intensify the problem...DO NOT do this!
